In this article you will learn how different emotions affect the function of different muscles. If you  ignore, dismiss, suppress or misuse your emotions, they become trapped in different organs and body parts:  eventually this leads to illness.  But before an illness strikes your body gives you warning signs. These signs are muscle tension, discomfort, tiredness and pains.

If you are experiencing muscle tension of any kind, this is a sign that some distractive emotions are trapped within.

Here are the 11 most common muscle tension problems which are caused by trapped emotions.
  1. Upper Back Tension: Too many responsibilities and feeling that you are responsible for everything and everybody else, doing too much and not having enough time for rest and pleasure. You are holding onto something very sad, this sadness has built up to the point where you are feeling it physically. Worrying and obsessing about making everything perfect.
  2. Middle Back Tension: Stuck in the past thinking what you did wrong and holding on to guilt. Not taking time to love and cherish yourself. Experiencing mood swings due to oversensitivity and worrying about what others might think of you. Not forgiving yourself and not letting go others.
  3. Lower Back Tension: Worrying about finances, survival and that others may don’t like you. Carrying too much anger about dealing with everyday issues. Trying to control the uncontrollable, focusing on the problems not on the solutions.
  4. Shoulder Tension: The shoulders represent responsibilities and ‘carrying weight’ for others and for yourself. Problems here mean you are burdened with too much strain, stress and worry. You are the person who is ‘carrying a world’ on your shoulders. The more weight you add on without acknowledging that you need help the worse this tension is going to get. Solution: be able to ask for help and stop pretending everything is fine. Let others to take responsibility for themselves.
  5. Abdominal Tension:  Abdomen represents how you able to digest your life experiences. If you have problems here you have difficulty taking life as it is, procrastinating and worrying about old issues. You may be behaving in a superior and controlling way but feeling fearful and inferior inside. You have a demanding attitude but are afraid of rejection, being over-sensitive to criticism and self-obsessed. Have tendency to feel attacked and punched in the stomach. Solution: connect to the feelings of unconditional love and self-worth.
  6. Neck Tension: The neck represents flexibility. Neck problems mean you are prone to be inflexible and stubborn, disconnected from your heart, having relationship problems and holding on to past hurts. You are refusing to accept the point of view of others and engage in too much thinking. Solution: practice mindfulness.
  7. Head Tension: The head represents your capacity to process your thoughts and emotions. Problems imply that you experience fear, tension, uncertainty and refuse to accept what’s going on. You criticise yourself and others, try to control people and situations, strive to be perfect and self- righteous and are burdened by too many responsibilities. Solution: sensing energy, meditation.
  8. Wrist Tension: The wrists represent movement and ease. If you have problems you feel stressed, stuck, overworked and irritated. You tend to control things, hold on to old limiting beliefs about how the work must be done.  Solution: changing activity, meditation, sensing energy.
  9. Outer Thigh Tension:  The thighs represent your tribal (family) connections and problems here imply that you are holding onto childhood traumas, resentment and fear. Any sense of betrayal you have experienced but ignored makes its way here. Solution: only true forgiveness can help to heal your thighs and hips.
  10. Inner Thigh Tension:  This is where your impatience comes in to play. Are you being too pushy? This stems from being frustrated and is something a lot of people struggle with. Solution: mindfulness, meditation, sensing energy.
  11. Knee Tension: Knees represent your pride and ability to be flexible while moving forward toward your dreams. It can stem from being afraid of showing your vulnerable side and bottling it away. Pride stops you from feeling vulnerable. Solution: connect to your real self beyond the pride.
